“How do I change my life?” This was the very question I asked myself, 4 years ago, and I’m sure this same question brought you here. Change is a constant thing in life. You cannot avoid it. Is either you change in a positive way and make your life better, or in a negative way.
Everyone wants to improve their lives and make them better. But only a few manage to make these changes occur in their life. We all want to level up our life by fulfiling our dreams, living in a good house, driving good cars, living happily, and having some notes in our bank accounts, but sometimes, we find it hard to bring these things to pass in our lives.
Today, I will be sharing with you, some tips or step by step guides on how to change your life for the better, within 7 days, 3 months, 6 months, or in one year, it all depends on how serious you are. Even if you don’t have money, you can change your life overnight.
Personal growth is one thing that shows you are becoming the man or woman of your dream. A transformed life is a fulfilled life. Below are 10 things you can do to transform, rebuild or refashion your life positively.
How To Change Your Life
1. Change your thoughts
Your thoughts are your life. Out of it proceeds the issues of life. Before you can be able to change your life, you need to change your thoughts first. Who you are and what you do is a result of what you think. That is why even God himself advised us to guide our hearts diligently.
Whatever a man achieves starts from the heart- in form of thoughts. You cannot do what you have not thought of except they are involuntary actions like sneezing, coughing, or reacting to shock. So, the first journey into changing your life is to change your thoughts first. “Just something as simple as changing your thinking can change your life,” notes Akina Chargualaf
One who always thinks about how to make money will always look for a way to attract money. Another who thinks about getting a job will always read different adverts, looking for the opportunity to acquire a job. Likewise, someone that always thinks about love will continue to do things that will help them attract their dream man or woman.
So, you can change your life by first renewing your mind. Remove every negative thought or emotion that kills your motivation to improve your life. This will help you realize your current level and the aspect of your life you want to change.
2. Set achievable goals
It is very easy to set goals like a pro but difficult to achieve them. It is also good to have big dreams but when it comes to goal setting, you need to be very clear about that. Set goals you can achieve. It keeps you motivated. But unrealistic goals kill your motivation faster.
Changing your life comes by realizing what you want and how to achieve them. That is the essence of setting targets for yourself. You can’t expect your life to change overnight without having some goals in mind that you want to achieve. So, write down whatever you want to change about your life, maybe in 3-6 months from now.
If it is your finance that you want to change, write it down. If it’s your career, write it down. Whatever it is, make sure you have a separate book where you can write them down.
3. Make up your mind to pursue those goals
Your life will not change for the better by relaxing after following the two steps above. You need to come out of your comfort zone. To change your life is to do what you have never done before.
One thing I have realized in life is that we all have dreams, but only diligent ones make their dreams come through. You can only change your life if you are determined enough to pursue your dreams. Nothing goes for nothing. Don’t expect your life to change if you’re not doing anything to change it.
4. Put off negative habits that will hold you back
Changing your life is all about changing everything about yourself. And for this change to occur, you need to put away every bad habit in your life.
Do you know that sleeping too much is a bad habit that can stop you from levelling up your life? What about eating too much and overspending your money? Don’t you know they are bad habits too? So, if you have already concluded that you don’t have any negative lifestyle to abandon, check whether these ones I mentioned are part of your daily life and do away with them.
5. Read more books to find inspiration
To change your life is to discover the things you can do to build yourself. So, you need to read books to get some inspiration. A single book can give you thousands of ideas on how to solve that particular problem you’ve been struggling with.
Reading books changes your mindset and idealogy about certain things that happen in life. For instance, a single book can change your ideology about failure, money, life, etc. So, invest in books and challenge yourself to read them.
6. Forgive yourself for the past mistakes you’ve made
You cannot change your life if you can’t let go of the past. Changing your life is about embracing a new you and forgetting the old you.
Are there mistakes you made in the past that are still hurting you? Let them go. Your target now is to make your life better by improving it. So, forgive yourself for the past errors or lifestyles you lived and embrace the new you that is on the way.
7. Let go of bad friends
Unserious minded friends can stop you from making your life look different. So, the best way to alter your life is to avoid friends that will not inspire you to take a step forward for that change to happen in your life.
Everyone must not be your friend if you must modify your life. If the type of friends you have are the ones that are only interested in watching movies, attending parties, or spending their time online, avoid them immediately if you must better your life.
8. Associate with positive-minded people
Most times, your life will not change by doing what you know how to do best. It changes by following people who have been there (where you want to reach in life) before you. So, take advantage of making good friends and establish a good relationship with them.
9. Attend life-changing seminars
It is time to go out and listen to life-changing words from motivational speakers. You never knew whether your life will change in that seminar. So, make it your priority to attend seminars and listen to podcasts to stay focused and motivated.
10. Believe in God
No matter what we do in life, God has the final say. But you have to play your own role first and live the rest for him. If you have followed the tips I mentioned earlier, it is time to believe that God can change your life. Even if you don’t believe in God, there must be something you believe in. So, just be patient with yourself and your life will surely change for good.
